Back in August, it was reported that Golden Globe winner Idris Elba was training to fight in a real kickboxing match as part of a new reality series on Discovery. He did not disappoint.

All of Elba's hard work paid off as he made his kickboxing debut at York Hall in London last night. The 44-year-old actor slugged out a decision victory in his first ever professional fight. Perhaps the most surprising thing about it is though, was that Elba was accompanied to the fight by who provided footage of the bout.

You can watch a clip from the fight below:

The match is part of the culmination of a Channel documentary called Idris Elba: Fighter, which will premiere early next year. It was shot on location in the UK, Cuba, Japan, South Africa Thailand and will feature Elba receiving training from former world champs, trainers and different coaches.

"It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally," said Elba to Deadline. "Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time.”
