If you ask most #comicbook movie fans and cinephiles what film will top box offices around the world this December, a majority of them will likely say Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Well, that may not end up being the case.
Disney's UTV Motion Pictures recently dropped the trailer for its Bollywood wrestling movie Dangal, and the teaser has already amassed approximately as many views as the first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars installment. In just over a week, the Dangal preview has been viewed more than 24.1 million times, while #RogueOne's debut teaser has only reached 24.7 million views since its release on August 11.
Indian actor and filmmaker, Aamir Khan produced and starred in the upcoming sports drama, which tells the tale of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his two daughters, who attempt to follow in their father's footsteps by competing at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Wrestling and martial arts seem to be hot topics in Bollywood these days, as Dangal isn't the first fighting flick to captivate audiences in India this year.
Director Ali Abbas Zafar's Sultan, starring actor Salman Khan, did extremely well in theaters this summer, grossing around $70 million at worldwide box offices, according to Deadline. The publication also reported that the preview for the film is the most-watched Bollywood trailer of all-time, with close to 34 million views.
Sultan also featured a scene involving UFC welterweight champion-turned actor, Tyron Woodley, who ends up facing Khan's character during a mixed martial arts bout.
Dangal is set to hit theaters in India, the United States, and other markets around the world on December 23.
