Rumors have been swirling for weeks that a fight between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez was in the works for UFC 205, but it looks like UFC President Dana White is shooting that idea down.

White claims the bout is "not true," and instead it will be Alvarez vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov.

But this is where it gets interesting...

Alvarez called out McGregor just minutes before White tweeted this, and then Nurmagomedov replied that he was just waiting on Alvarez to sign his bout contract.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. For now, neither Conor McGregor, Eddie Alvarez, nor Khabib Nurmagomedov have official match-ups booked at UFC 205, or any other UFC event in 2016.

McGregor was last seen in action at UFC 202, where he defeated Nate Diaz in a welterweight rematch. Eddie Alvarez meanwhile became the UFC Lightweight Champion in his last, finishing Rafael dos Anjos in the first round. Khabib Nurmagomedov returned from a two year absence from MMA in April, defeating Darrell Horcher in the second.

UFC 205 will take place on November 12 at Madison Square Garden. It will be the first UFC event to take place in the state of New York.
