The legend of Bruce Lee will once again grace the silver screen in the upcoming action-packed film, Birth of the Dragon.
The martial arts movie, which recently screened at the Toronto Film Festival, is a based-on-a-true-story amalgam of fact and fiction centered around the controversial 1964 fight between Lee and kung fu guru, Wong Jack Man in San Fransisco. The flick, directed by the Adjustment Bureau's George Nolfi, stars Philip Ng as the fighting icon, while Yu Xia plays his opponent.
According to Deadline, the story will follow actor, Billy Magnussen as Steve McQueen, who begins training with Lee and sets up the match against Wong Jack Man, while also pursuing a love interest plagued by the Chinese mob.
Nolfi told Deadline that the mystery surrounding the legendary battle is what intrigued him about the project.
"It was one of the most storied fights in all of martial arts history. That it took place in front of a dozen witnesses, no two of whom had the same account of the fight," he said. "I thought that was awesome; something that disputed with strong opinions on all sides, means there’s inherent drama."
