The excitement of the Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler fight lasted only two days before news broke that Lawler had pulled out of the fight.

According to Cerrone, who spoke to media during UFC 203, Lawler met with him personally to break the news and explain the cancellation himself.

"Robbie came to me," he said. "Face to face. First he called me and said 'I want to talk. [I want to] tell you something.'"

He says Lawler asked where he was and said he'd be right there.

The pair met at a bar inside of Metropolitan 9, a hotel in Cleveland, Ohio.

"He said, 'I want to let you know man to man, this fight's not happening.'"

He says that he asked why, and Lawler explained that he needed more time for his head to heal from his previous fight.

"If I were to step aside, a little piece of "fan" died inside me. Damn, that's a fight that I would love to watch," Cerrone said.

Donald assured the crowd that he still had full intentions on fighting at UFC 205.

"I guess I can start rallying for Eddie Alvarez again," he laughed.
