UFC strawweight, Michelle Waterson, is back swinging just a week after undergoing hand surgery.
The former Invicta FC atomweight champion underwent surgery last week for a hand injury that forced her out of this Saturday's UFC Fight Night 93 in Hamburg, Germany.
Waterson, better known as 'The Karate Hottie', was originally scheduled to fight Aisling Daly, but the Irish fighter also pulled out of the fight due to an injury. Having no opponent, UFC officials planned on keeping Waterson on the card, and looked for a replacement opponent. However, the injury bug bit again, this time leaving the 30-year-old Waterson out of the Germany card.
Waterson hasn't fought in over a year. She last competed at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale in July, 2015, successfully making her UFC debut by defeating Angela Magana via third-round rear-naked choke. Following her debut, Waterson was scheduled to return to the Octagon last November at UFC 194 against Tecia Torres, but she was forced to withdraw from the bout citing a knee injury. Waterson currently trains out of Jackson-Wink in Albuquerque and carries an impressive 13-4 record.
