Former NFL linebacker, Shawne Merriman announced his partnership with Bellator MMA last week, but not as a fighter... at least not yet.

Instead, Bellator and Merriman's athletic apparel brand, Lights Out, will be teaming together on future events and promotions.

However, we can't count out an NFL/MMA crossover just yet, according to Merriman.

"I like to train with it," he told at the Bellator 160 media day. "But who knows. Scott Coker's very creative."

He went on to say how much more difficult it is to train in MMA vs. the NFL.

"For me, it's a different type of training," he said. "One thing is, football is a lot of explosion, a lot of short distance stuff."

"In MMA, you have to really control your breath and not panic in certain situations," he said. "And punching a bag for three minutes straight is one of the hardest things you can do."

Despite the fact that he is training, he doesn't see a crossover happening anytime soon.
