It pays to be a good sport -- especially in defeat.

Egyptian judoka Islam El Shehaby was sent packing from the Olympic Games in Rio not because he lost, but because he failed to shake the hand of his Israeli opponent after he lost.

The BBC and several other news outlets reported that the Egyptian Olympic Committee subsequently decided to send him home.

The International Olympic Committee added that his actions were, "against the spirit of friendship embodied in the Olympic values."

His opponent, Or Sasson, went on to win the bronze medal.

El Shehaby is not the first athlete to refuse to shake another fighter's hand. Ronda Rousey famously snubbed Miesha Tate -- after Rousey tapped Tate out. Like El Shehaby, Rousey was met with big boo's from the crowd after her snub.
