Bellator fighter, Alexander Shlemenko has announced he will be running for a seat in the Russian parliament.
This announcement was made less than 24 hours after a court ruling that allowed him to resume competition in the United States following a failed drug test at Bellator 133.
According to tass.ru the former champion was able to collect enough signatures to secure a nomination as a candidate for deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Omsk region.
"In Omsk I support a lot of people who are waiting for change and believe in me, so I made the decision," he said.
The election takes place in early September.
Shlemenko last fought in the United States February 2015 at Bellator 133 when he knocked out Melvin Manhoef in the second round. The win was later overturned to a no contest. He has a 53-9 MMA record and has tacked on two more wins through M-1 following his Bellator bout.
