Five-time Bellator veteran Shahbulat Shamhalaev was the target of a shooting three weeks ago that occurred when two men walked into a restaurant in Makhachkala, Dagestan, according to a Russian news site ndelo.ru.
One of the men was holding an assault riffle and the other had a pistol. Shamhalaev was shot six times including a bullet that grazed his head. He spent three weeks in the hospital but has since been discharged, according to Bloody Elbow.

Shamhalaev lost a kidney was placed in a medically induced coma in order to stabilize and safeguard his organs.
Bloodyelbow.com added that he tried to escape from the hospital and even attacked a nurse when he was brought out of the coma, which doctors attribute to medication that was causing him to hallucinate.
Shamhalaev last fought for Bellator in 2014, where he lost to Fabricio de Assis Costa da Silva, but might make a return despite the incident.
"Of course, he would like to play sports again," a source told Tass.ru. "A lot of time would be required to resume classes and general physical exercise, but with regard to martial arts, it is more difficult. But he will see."
