Shortly after the announcement of the passing of an MMA superstar in Kimbo Slice, tributes began to pour out over social media. One such tribute came from his former employer, the UFC, who released this statement.
UFC is saddened to learn of the passing of Kevin Ferguson, known to fans around the world as Kimbo Slice.
Slice will forever be a part of UFC history as a contestant on season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2009, and for having fought twice inside the Octagon at The Ultimate Fighter Finale and UFC 113. He carried himself as a true professional during his time in our organization.
While he will never be forgotten for his fighting style and transcendent image, Slice will also be remembered for his warm personality and commitment to his family and friends.
UFC offers its sincere condolences to Slice's family, friends and teammates at American Top Team.
Slice, who only fought for the UFC twice (not counting his TUF bouts) was famous for filming his street fighting antics.
He won his last two bouts in Bellator, but the most recent win was overturned due to a failed drug test. He left MMA with a 5-2 record.
UFC President Dana White also Instagramed a tribute to Slice.
Slice was set to headline Bellator 158 in London next month. Now the ticket link is replaced with a statement from Bellator, which Champions.co reported on yesterday.
No cause of death has been released yet.
