Glover Teixeira had a huge win this past weekend at UFC on FOX 19, knocking out former champ Rashad Evans in a very dominant performance. Following the fight, Teixeira called out Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, who is currently ranked #2 in the LHW division.
Dana White spoke with Heidi Androl after the event, and stated that he really likes the idea of that fight. While this match-up has been rumored for some time, seeing it on White's radar is definitely a big step towards making it a real, live thing.
Take a look at what he had to say:
"It's all about timing. It's funny, when [Teixeira] called him out, I went, ‘oh, I like that fight.' That's a fun fight. Glover looked awesome tonight. Rashad Evans is always a dangerous guy. Rashad has speed in his hands, he has knockout power himself, and he got caught. You know I don't make fights after fights, but I gotta be honest, when [Teixeira] called [Johnson] out, I like that fight."
You may recall that prior to Cormier's injury, Johnson was the next man in line to challenge for the strap. However, he was undergoing a medical procedure at the time, and now finds himself in a similar situation as Teixeira, stuck waiting for the title picture to work itself out.
So if Johnson wants to stay busy in the meantime, Teixeira is definitely down to step foot inside the Octagon and face him.
"I'm a fighter, man. I'm a worker. I want to fight," Teixeira said at Saturday's post-fight press conference. "It's all about business. It's all about keeping myself busy, and eventually fighting for the title. I don't care who, I don't care where. I just want to fight."
I guess we'll see if this actually goes down some time in the near future.
