Another UFC fighter has been flagged for a potential US Anti-Doping Policy Violation.

According to an out-of-competition sample collection, Islam Makhachev was found to have had Meldonium in his system. Accordingly, he has been handed a provisional suspension, and will no longer participate in his scheduled match-up with Drew Dober at UFC on Fox tomorrow night.

Meldonium is a relatively new entry on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List of Substances, and was added on January 1, 2016.

It is important to note at this point that Makhachev has not officially been suspended. He has only been temporarily removed from active competition while an investigation occurs.

On Instagram, Makhachev issued a statement (translated to English):

Today after weighing us face the fact that in my analyzes traces meldonium (mildronata), which is prohibited for use with 01.01.2016 year. The news was a shock to me and my whole team. At the same time, according to the Anti-Doping Commission of the date of the use of drugs by me, containing meldonium (mildronat), has not been established. However, on our part, explained that the identification of the drug in my analysis is likely due to the use of drugs, prescription by doctors for health reasons. No drugs intentionally or without medical necessity, I never took. Moreover, no drugs containing meldonium (mildronat), after her ban from January 2016.
Therefore, removing me from the tournament is due not to the fact of violation of the Anti-Doping Commission making me, and to the impossibility of such a short time to install all the same when the drug got into my body, before or after 01.01.2016. This decision taken by the leadership of UFC solely as a precaution. Consequently, the final decision on my dismissal from the fighting will be made after the end of the investigation the anti-doping commission. For its part, for the fans I declare once again that I have never used such a drug, and any other banned drugs intentionally or not medically necessary. More than confident that the results of the final test, will result not guilty.
I apologize to all the fans and the fans who have been waiting for my fight I prepared than ever to go back, I think in the next few days will be decided in this case, and I'll be back
