Well here's some surprising news.
The UFC has confirmed via Twitter that LW champion Rafael dos Anjos (25-7) will defend his title against Eddie Alvarez (27-4) in July... but not at UFC 200.
Instead, Dos Anjos and Alvarez will face each other on a UFC Fight Pass exclusive card on July 7, two days before the big PPV.
Dos Anjos was originally scheduled to face Conor McGregor at UFC 196, but was forced to drop out of that fight after suffering a foot injury during training. His last bout came in December 2015, when he knocked out Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone in just a minute and six seconds. He has He has won 9 of his 10 UFC fights so far, with his only loss coming at the hands of Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is coincidentally also making his return to the Octagon soon.
Alvarez meanwhile is just 2-1 in the UFC, but those wins were against Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis, launching him up the Lightweight rankings. His one UFC loss was to "Cowboy" Cerrone, a man Dos Anjos defeated in the first round. Alvarez is also the former Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion.
UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Alvarez will take place on July 7. 200 will take place on July 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
