Well, Mackenzie Dern doesn't have to prove herself more than she already has. She's a legendary grappler, a jiu-jitsu black belt, and the daughter of Wellington "Megaton" Dias (a fellow black belt). However, we'll see how she transitions to the world of mixed martial arts, better known as MMA.
The fighter just signed a deal with Legacy FC and will make her MMA debut July 22 in Dallas, the promotion announced Thursday.
Dern won the IBJJF jiu-jitsu world championship and ADCC in 2015, she competes somewhere between 127 pounds and 132 pounds in jiu-jitsu and grappling. And for her MMA debut, she said she would cut down to 115 pounds to MMAFighting. She still doesn't have an opponent.
Dern had the following to say about the announcement:
"I hope I can represent jiu-jitsu well and put on a good performance. Of course, I will try to be aggressive, but it’s my first fight, so I will still feel everything, see what I have to improve."
Dern is training at The MMA Lab for her mixed martial arts debut.
