UFC 196 is nearly upon us. After the disappointment of Rafael Dos Anjos dropping out due to a broken foot, fans were left in limbo as to who would face the Notorious one. Step up the trash talking Nate Diaz.
Diaz saved the event in a main event that see's the two square off at welterweight, a massive jump in weight for Conor Mcgregor who is currently the 145lbs featherweight champion.
Fans are arguably more excited for this fight than the Dos Anjos title clash. Not only is Nate Diaz a formidable opponent for McGregor inside the octagon, he's also one outside. Diaz gives as good as he gets in the trash talking game. Usually attacking his opponent in vicious, expletive laden rants.
Which makes his recent comments about Conor McGregor all the more surprising...
Nate Diaz gave an uncharacteristic candid interview to UFC Tonight anchor KarynBryant. Speaking about the upcoming bout, Diaz complimented McGregor's trash talking and singled him out to be great at welterweight.
I think he’s great, the whole thing, calling out everbody, saying what he’s saying. A lot of the stuff he says, I’ve already said, or already thought to say, and he goes and says it, and then you’re really mad. You’re like, ‘no that’s what I said,’ you know what I’m saying? But, he got it out there and he’s doing a good job.”
I think he’s gonna do great, you know, hopefully not against me. I went up a weight class and I felt good, I felt strong, I felt fast and real good about things so, I’m sure he is gonna feel fine.”
Sincere or mind games? Who knows.
UFC 196 takes place at March 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight card is stacked with talent, as Holly Holm makes her first title defence against women's MMA pioneer Meisha Tate.
The event is set to be one of the biggest nights in the promotions history, largely thanks to the main event which will see Conor McGregor take on Nate Diaz.
