Manny Pacquiao got people talking yesterday after saying that homosexuals were "worse than animals."

“It’s common sense,” he said in an interview. “Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female. If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”

Pacquiao quickly realized that a backlash was coming though, and apologized on Twitter shortly thereafter. He added that even though he's still against gay marriage, he doesn't condemn anyone in the LGBT community and he prays for them.

He then took to Instagram to clear it up:

"I'm sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals. Please forgive me for those I've hurt. I still stand on my belief that I'm against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I'm not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I'm praying for you."

And here he is on Twitter, also apologizing:

Hmm... I would say that this is a bit of a cop-out but maybe that's just me.

UPDATE: As of Feb 17th at 12:15 PM a Nike representative released the following statement after dropping him from his contract:

“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community."

What do you think of the boxer's apology?
