Injuries are not a joke at all. In fact, whenever people get hurt while pushing their bodies to the limit in order to entertain us, I feel like it's a shame. However, in this case, the timing seems a little weird.
CM Punk has postponed his UFC debut numerous times already, but now he has back surgery planned that will push it back even further. The 37-year-old Punk, née Phil Brooks, has been battling a lingering back injury from his years as a professional wrestler. Recently, though, the injury worsened.
Here's what he had to say to MMAFighting:
"My back has always bugged me. Figured it was just wrestling sh*t. Turns out it was.
"It got bad enough to the point where I couldn't do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month. One day I could manage, the next day I couldn't. I've been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy ... nothing worked."
This is fresh off Saturday's announcement that Punk would be facing 24-year-old Mickey Gall in his debut after Gall defeated fellow UFC newcomer Mike Jackson via first-round rear-naked choke. Coincidentally for Punk, he was advised by his doctor right before the fight that he needed surgery, but Punk decided to keep that news for himself.
You may recall Punk signed with the UFC way back in December, 2014. It's been over a year and he has yet to step foot inside the Octagon.
"This is just a bump in the road. I'm positive about this."
What do you make of this?
