Benson Henderson was undeniably a star in the UFC. But part of the reason he left to join Bellator had to be so that he could get a promotion that would give him opportunities to win serious belts.

That appears to be exactly what is going to happen right off the bat as his first fight as a Bellator man will be for gold. The former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, is slated to debut April 22 at Bellator 153 against reigning welterweight titleholder Andrey Koreshkov, sources have confirmed.

Bellator 153 takes place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The night's main card will air live on Spike TV.

Henderson is a record-tying UFC champion, with his three lightweight title defenses over Frankie Edgar, Nate Diaz, and Gilbert Melendez. The only other UFC fighter in the same conversation as Henderson (as far as titles go) is B.J. Penn who is tied with him.

His list of scalps at lightweight is impressive too, as he's highlighted by additional wins over Donald Cerrone (x2), Jim Miller, Josh Thomson, and Jamie Varner.
