Female heavyweight fighters are so rare, that no sanctioned organization currently maintains an active division for those athletes. That's why the televised New Years brawl between Gabi Garcia and Lei'd Tapa was kind of awe-inspiring to watch.

Both of these women were making their MMA debuts that night. Gabi Garcia was a well known world champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu though, and helped to coach Wanderlei Silva's team on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. Lei'd Tapa meanwhile was a former professional women's football player, professional wrestler, and had been training MMA with American Top Team.

Their fight might not have been particularly graceful or technical, but it sure as hell was entertaining. Give it a watch below:
