A rematch between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm would undoubtedly be one of the biggest events in the history of MMA, but with Rousey's packed schedule, many are wondering if she'll have the time or the heart to get back in the Octagon.
At a recent UFC 197 press conference, Holm was asked about her thoughts on a potential rematch with Rousey, and if she thinks Rousey should return at all. Well, Holm says she's ready and willing to give Ronda Rousey a crack at her title, but only if Rousey's head is in the right place.
"I would rather meet someone in the cage when they're passionate about it," Holm said. "I don't want it to be because they feel like they have to or because it's expected or other people are curious about it. It's Ronda's life. I want her to do what she wants to do."
Rousey was originally slated to receive an immediate rematch at UFC 200 this summer. However, obligations on two movie roles and an appearance on Saturday Night Live rendered that timeline unrealistic, and she's now planning a return in late 2016.
In the meantime, Holm has decided to defend her title instead of waiting around, booking a match-up with the no.2-ranked Miesha Tate. She hopes to fight at least three times a year for the foreseeable future.
"For me, I want to keep fighting," Holm said. "And if Ronda wants to come back and that's her passion, great. If she wants to stay in movies, great."
"If Ronda wants to fight, awesome. If she wants to go into the different avenues of her life, great. Whatever."
