There was big news swirling in the media recently regarding Conor McGregor fighting the UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. This of course would've been huge news as McGregor could've been the first person to hold both featherweight and lightweight belts at the same time.

However, there was never an official announcement from the UFC surrounding this bout. Now it looks like it's pretty certainly not going to happen. Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh and dos Anjos' manager Ali Abdel-Aziz both fired off Tweets that shot down the likelihood of this fight.

Kavanagh's Tweet

Ali Abdel-Aziz didn't take long to fire back in defense of his own fighter though, implying that Conor McGregor was the one dodging the fight.

Abdel-Aziz's Tweet

So.... yeah.

Fans later asked for clarification on the tweet, to which he replied:

He later added that he was expecting the fight announcement to happen, but the UFC has not even tried to call him. If true, then one might assume that it is Conor McGregor who called the fight off.

That being said, Conor McGregor's camp added this message:

So who knows what's going down at UFC 197 now.
