The UFC should be pretty pleased with Holly Holm. She's the undefeated star of the female bantamweight division who... oh yeah, defeated Ronda Rousey back in November.
They've taken note and recently gone through negotiations to see if they could keep Holly on board with the fighting league, potentially to fight Ronda Rousey next in what could be a huge rematch event.
Holm's longtime manager Lenny Fresquez had this to say to ESPN about the contract negotiations.
"We have officially signed a multiyear extension with the UFC. That's all I can verify right now. We've signed an extension, and we're very happy with the extension."
He didn't give any specifics regarding the amount of money involved.
Is Holly Holm the next big star of the UFC or is she just a flash in the pan?
While this question is kind of unfair, there is a lot to be decided for her and the continuation of her fighting career. The rematch with Ronda Rousey was, according to Lorenzo Fertitta (UFC Co-Chairman) very important for the UFC. In fact he said he and those involved should "probably lose our promoter's license if didn't make that rematch."
But if we didn't see any rematch, at least for a while, you've gotta think that Holly is going to be a pretty happy woman. While she is a strong fighter and knows how to back up her talk, that is more than arguably going to be her toughest fight yet.
An angry Ronda or maybe 2 or 3 "easier" foes? Who would you pick?
I guess we'll see, but UFC president Dana White says there's still a lot of work deciding what's next for both fighters - Ronda and Holly.
“We have nothing done yet. We have a lot of work to do."
