Dean Ambrose Vs. The Miz (Intercontinental Championship)
- Match Type: Singles Match (but if Dean Ambrose gets disqualified, he loses the Intercontinental Championship)
Things start off with a lock-up, which Dean Ambrose gets the better of, taking the Miz down. They out-manoeuvre each other with Miz pushing the champion, taunting him. He then slaps Dean in the face, inciting an onslaught of rage-infested punches. The referee reminds Ambrose that if he's disqualified, he loses the title. Ambrose calms down and lands a spinning elbow on Miz before knocking him to the outside. He then launches himself through the ropes.
Dean rams the Miz into the apron and breaks the count. He lifts a sreel chair, and the referee berates him — they're really pushing the whole hothead risking disqualification angle here. Miz lands a kick, taking Ambrose down and grabs the chair as Maryse distracts the ref. But the champion grabs the chair as the referee turns around and berates him again.
The Miz gains the control as the action spills back into the ring. Ambrose fights back and looks for the Lunatic Lariat, but Miz counters and delivers a back-breaker. He begins to beat down the Intercontinental Champion, slowing the match down with a chokehold. The Lunatic Fringe tries to fight back but eats a boot from the challenger.
Miz rakes Dean's face and tries to follow it up with a submission as an "Ambrose" chant breaks out. Before the champ can fight out, the Miz pulls him down by the hair and continues to work on him. The A-Lister hits three consecutive dropkicks in the corner and follows it up with his patented clothesline. He then ascends the ropes but is stopped when Dean fights back, knocking him to the floor outside.
Ambrose mounts the ringpost and delivers his trademark elbow onto Miz on the outside. He throws him back into the ring and builds momentum with clotheslines and a Fisherman Suplex. Miz fights back, looking for a kick, but Ambrose rolls him up for a near-fall. Dean then jumps off the top rope but he misses his target, tweaking his knee in the process. The Miz goes straight for the injured leg and locks in the Figure Four leg-lock. Dean makes it to the ropes but Miz goes for it again. Ambrose counters into a roll-up for a two count.
Miz counters Ambrose's attack from the top, looking for a Superplex. But Dean counters, looking for a Powerbomb. Miz pulls the turnbuckle cover off as he struggles. He slides down and Dean tries to ram him into the turnbuckle but stops just in time, noticing the exposed steel. The distraction costs him as he turns straight into running knee/dropkick from Miz.
Miz then begins to unload on the champ with Daniel Bryan-like "Yes" kicks, but Dean counters and locks in his own Figure-Four Leg-lock. Miz makes it to the ropes, but Ambrose hits a clothesline. They both almost run into Maryse, which gives Miz an idea — he asks his wife to slap him, hoping it'll get Ambrose disqualified. She complies but the ref doesn't buy it, sending her away from ringside.
But as he's distracted, Miz launches Ambrose into the referee. The angry ref accuses the Champ of intentionally hitting him and makes his way to the ring-bell to disqualify him. But as Dean begs him not to, Miz hits the Skull-Crushing Finale to win his seventh Intercontinental Championship.
Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: The Miz

He crawls to the cover, but at the two count, Samoa Joe re-enters the ring and locks in the Coquina Clutch on Finn, dragging him off Reigns and into the center of the ring. And in a matter of moments, Balor passes out in the hold.
Winner and #1 Contender For Universal Championship: Samoa Joe
All in all, the short match card ended up benefiting Extreme Rules. The less matches allowed the company to spend more time on the important ones. While some of the contests seemed unnecessary and didn't necessarily live up to their extreme potential, the show was still packed full of six entertaining matches that delivered.
With new Tag Team Champions, a new Intercontinental Champion and Samoa Joe becoming the #1 Contender, things have gotten very interesting for the red brand. Let's hope that RAW can follow the action up with strong storylines as we head towards #GreatBallsOfFire.
