March 3rd has been a very interesting day for UFC 209 co-main event fighter Tony Ferguson. It started with Ferguson finding out that his scheduled opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov had been hospitalized due to weight cutting issues and wouldn't be able to compete. And that was followed by a mad dash to find a replacement opponent on less than 24 hours notice..
Lightweight top-10 fighter Michael Johnson was willing to step in on and take the fight. However, the contract terms weren't able to be agreed upon.
Tony Ferguson quickly responded to Johnson's tweet and attempted to explain why he didn't accept the fight.
Ferguson trained for weeks to get paid a specific amount to put his health on the line inside of the Octagon, so it is understandable that he wouldn't compromise his pay to make a last second fight happen.
