The Brazilian light-heavyweight recently made a pilgrimage to Catskill, New York, in order to live out a childhood dream by stepping into the ring at the former heavyweight boxing champ's old gym, formerly run by his legendary coach Cus D'Amato. Since the gym is only a hour away from his house, Teixeira decided to check out the place during a weekend trip to Catskill with his wife.
Despite his excitement, it took the Teixeiras some time to locate the hallowed grounds, as they drove all around the town to find it. After some serious searching, the former title contender finally found Tyson's old training grounds attached to a building that now houses a police station.
"I saw a police station, I was like, 'Oh, it's got to be over there!'" Teixeira excitedly explains in the clip. "I drive around and I saw Cus [D'Amato's] gym. It's still here."
Unfortunately, Teixeira's dream hit another setback since the gym was closed on the Sunday they scoped it out. Following a few pictures and basking in the moment, Teixeira's wife practically had to drag him away from the gym, but he was able to return on another trip for a training session in front of the cameras.
"It's just incredible to be in the same place that he was 20, 30 years ago," Teixeira. "As a kid in Brazil, I never thought it would happen."
