Now that Woodley still reigns as welterweight champion, a new drama is brewing around his belt. Longtime teammate, Jorge Masvidal, is fighting Demian Maia for the No. 1 contendership, which would put Woodley and Masvidal at odds if the Cuban wins.
This isn't something Masvidal wants, especially considering the two have known each other since their start in the Strikeforce days, and it would pit American Top Team Talent against American Top Team talent.
Still, Masvidal didn't mince his words — he's coming after the belt. That's where the paydays come from, and he wants the money. Considering how well the two fighters would know each other coming in, it seems like it would make for a thrilling lead up and fight.
Poor Maia, he can't even get a title shot in hypothetical dream scenarios.
