Fighters have intense schedules. They train daily, fight on the weekends, cut weight, avoid going out, and have crazy media obligations. So it's a wonder how any of them even have time for hobbies - but they do.
Here is a select list of UFC, Bellator, and retired fighters who happen to have some pretty enviable, unique, and downright hilarious hobbies.
Anderson Silva - Paintball
Anderson Silva is widely considered the GOAT inside the Octagon, and as someone who has played paintball with him, he's also the GOAT on the paintball course. Silva posts frequently about going to shoot, and often brings a large group of friends and family along. He's got his own gear and has the attire down pat. I guess competition really is in his blood. I'm also guessing that when faced with Anderson Silva in front of you with a paintball gun, you have no choice but to surrender.
Michael Bisping - Acting
Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping has some serious multi-tasking skills. He was filming a movie shortly before stepping in to fight Luke Rockhold on short notice, but he still won the belt. Shortly before his first title defense, he was filming yet another movie, and he won that fight too. While acting might not be a "hobby" per se, it's definitely something he does in his free time, and it isn't his main source of income.
Chris Leben - Real Estate
Wait.... Chris Leben is selling real estate now? This is actually the oddest (and potentially smartest) move he has ever made. Leben hasn't had the easiest life inside or outside the Octagon, but he's been adamant that he's cleaned up his life. This looks to be one step closer to a more clean cut, professional Leben. But don't worry, he's still in the gym training fighters and keeping in shape!
Ronda Rousey - Knitting
Who would have thought that former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would take up knitting? I sure didn't, but according to "2 Broke Girls" actress, Kat Dennings, she and Rousey have started their own knitting club, which they have named The Yarn and the Restless. Dennings appeared on Ellen last week where she talked about her friendship with the Olympic medalist and their shared hobby.
Demetrious Johnson - Video Games
Demetrious Johnson is the number-one pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, the current flyweight champion, and a competitive gamer. Video games are almost as important as his MMA career, and he's just as good at them as he is at winning inside the Octagon. In fact, he recently competed at TwitchCon.
Chad Mendes - Hunting
Chad Mendes is currently on a two-year suspension following a failed USADA test, which leaves him plenty of time to do more hunting. Mendes has hunted regularly and always uses the meat from the kills to feed himself and others, which tends to silence those who think his hobby is cruel and controversial.
Cowboy Cerrone - Every Outdoor Sport Ever
As if fighting wasn't extreme enough, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone likes to spend his time outside of the Octagon doing multiple water sports, such as scuba diving, wake boarding, and jet skiing. He also enjoys motorcyles, riding horses, and going off-roading. Take a look through Cerrone's official Instagram account to see all of his adventures.
Conor McGregor - Shopping
It's no shock to anyone that Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor likes to spend money. I have already outlined how much he loves fashion, so it makes sense that one of his hobbies would be shopping. If I made what McGregor made, I'd be hanging out on Fifth Avenue too! I image that when he heads to New York for his title fight with Eddie Alvarez, he'll be bringing home plenty of high-end threads.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk - Sneaker Collection
What do you get for the strawweight champion who has everything? Apparently, sneakers. Joanna Jedrzejczyk has a sneaker collection to rival even Kanye West. She's often posting photos of her new kicks on Instagram (wonder if the brand would shock you). Jedrzejczyk is set to defend her title at Madison Square Garden at UFC 205, so perhaps she and McGregor should take a shopping trip together, since he happens to be half of the event's headliner.
Luke Rockhold - Surfing
Luke Rockhold is the former middleweight champion, and will be on his way to Australia next month for a bout with Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. In his free time, he surfs along the coast of California, where he lives. Perhaps he'll take advantage of the beautiful beaches on the Gold Coast after his fight.
Tito Ortiz - Fishing
Tito Ortiz is known as the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy," so it's not shock that he took up fishing, since it's one of the most popular pastimes in HB. He regularly takes his boat out into the open ocean for fishing with his sons, bringing back big catches every time. He's also been seen lobster fishing as well. Ortiz is rumored to be facing Chael Sonnen in Bellator sometime soon.
