Brad "One Punch" Pickett is a true pioneer of British mixed martial arts. He has fought legends and prospects alike over the course of his 13 year career, scoring some incredible victories along the way. And at #UFCLondon today, he was one minute away from riding off into the sunset with a clear cut win over Marlon Vera.
But MMA has a way of throwing a wrench into even the most well laid plans.
With just seconds remaining in the bout, Pickett's swan song was spoiled by a Vera headkick.
It was a heartbreaking way to end things, to put it lightly, but not a result that will have any effect on One Punch's legendary status in both his home country and the sport.
"I'm so thankful for the UFC for giving me a platform to show my skills," said a teary-eyed Pickett to Dan Hardy in his post-fight interview. "And to all the fans, I f*cking love you."
And so another legend of the sport hangs up his hat for good – or at least, left it in the Octagon along with over a decade's worth of blood, sweat, and tears.
Thanks for the memories, Brad.
