Could 2017 finally be the year that fight fans witness the return of Nick Diaz? We haven't seen the eldest Diaz brother inside the UFC Octagon since his fight with Anderson Silva in January of 2015. Now, with his suspension served, all that’s left to do is find an opponent willing to face the Stockton native.
According to reports, a rematch between Nate Diaz and Robbie Lawler was in the works for UFC 209. The rematch would satisfy the appetite of any fight fan, considering the pair met way back in 2004, with a young Diaz knocking out a young Robbie Lawler. To this day, only he and Tyron Woodley have been able to stop the notoriously tough Robbie Lawler with strikes.
However, according to Joe Rogan, it sounds like #NickDiaz has passed on the fight, which could potentially be the scrap that Dana White had allegedly offered.
Speaking on his podcast, the UFC commentator revealed the news that will break fight fans collective hearts around the world.
From recent reports, it looks like the promotion is working hard to get Nick Diaz back in the Octagon alongside a star opponent. It was even alleged that the UFC offered the eldest Diaz brother a shot at lightweight champion Conor McGregor, as reported by Chris Taylor of BJPenn.com, but the Californian turned it down citing the fight as his brothers
We can’t argue with that logic. A rubber match between McGregor and Nate Diaz seems the next logical step for both fighters, and fight fans around the world want to see that trilogy completed.
With 2017 just beginning, the UFC has the benefit of time on its hands to nail down a stunning comeback fight for Nick Diaz. His return to the cage will surely be a massive selling point for any PPV event. Hopefully we’ll see him back in action sooner, rather than later.
