It must be nice to be the champ. It's especially nice if you take the belt from a man who has dominated your family for the better part of a decade. That's Cody Garbrandt's life now. He killed the king, took his belt, and wrapped it around the waist of his young friend, leukemia survivor Maddux Maple. He's got it all: the backing of his friends, family, and team.
He's even got a mural painted of him courtesy of Urijah Faber. What a guy. The newly-retired legend commissioned this piece of #CodyGarbrandt from Sacramento street art legend David Garibaldi. Pretty sweet.
We've heard the smack being thrown in the general direction of Team Alpha Male by Dominick Cruz and others for years, but this paints a picture (rimshot) of a healthy team. Sure, maybe Dillashaw left with Ludwig to do their own thing, maybe the team has in-fighting, but it seems like a family. What family doesn't fight? What family doesn't celebrate the great victories that maybe wouldn't have come if not for the fighting? The hard times.
