This morning's #UFC209 weigh-ins were not without their fair share of drama, to put it lightly. First we were told that Khabib Nurmagomedov had been hospitalized while cutting weight. Then we were shown a video of Khabib cutting weight in good spirits. Then we were told that Khabib was in fact hospitalized, but the reason behind it had nothing to do with the weight cutting process.
In any case, it appeared that Nurmagomedov would not be eligible to fight for the interim lightweight title as a result of hospitalization, and that the fight was looking to be in jeopardy of being cancelled altogether.
And now, we have our answer: Khabib Nurmagomedov is OUT of UFC 209.
The Dagestani grappler failed to show at this morning's weigh-ins, Khabib has not been cleared to fight due to the issues he suffered while cutting weight this morning. Per the UFC's official statement:
UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was transported to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center Thursday evening due to weight management medical issues. He was treated and has been discharged, UFC officials confirmed.
The scheduled interim lightweight championship bout between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 has been cancelled on the doctor’s recommendation.
UFC 209 takes place Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on Pay-Per-View at 10 p.m./7 p.m. ET/PT. Tyron Woodley faces Stephen Thompson with his welterweight championship on the line in a rematch from their 2016 Fight of the Year contender at UFC 205.
