UFC 209 is finally here, and the feud between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson will assuredly come to an end (unless they draw again or something weird happens).
And even if Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson is off the card (our hearts are still collectively breaking), Overeem vs. Hunt, the return of Rashad Evans at middleweight, Vannata vs. Teymur and other action should satisfy at least a little.
So let's do this!
Tyron Woodley def. Stephen Thompson via majority draw.
David Teymur def. Lando Vannata via unanimous decision
Quite a few people were calling this the dark horse fight of the card, and they were right. These two put on a show. I mean, what in the world...
The highlights just keep coming...
Dan Kelly def. Rashad Evans via split decision
Kelly may be injured and 39-years-old, but the crafty Olympian outworked the supposedly rejuvenated Rashad Evans to get the split-decision. Check out the highlights here.
Cynthia Calvillo def. Amanda Cooper v rear naked check (round 1).
Calvillo showed off her impressive ground game against the boxer Cooper. After this failed takedown, Calvillo sunk in an anaconda then smoothly transitioned into the rear naked choke, sunk it in, and ended it quick.
Alistair Overeem def. Mark Hunt via devastating knee knockout (round 3)
Fox Sports 1 Prelims
Marcin Tybura def. Luis Henrique via TKO (round 3)
Darren Elkins def. Mirsad Bektić via knockout (round 3)
Iuri Alcantara def. Luke Sanders via kneebar submission (round 2)
For nearly ten minutes, Luke Sanders was pounding Iuri Alvantara, just dominating him on the ground. Then, somehow, this happened:
Mark Godbeer def. Daniel Spitz via unanimous decision
Fight Pass Prelims
Tyson Pedro def. Paul Craig via TKO (round 1)
After the fight, Morales explained to us that he wants a rematch with Thomas Almeida, who delivered Morales the first loss of his career back in November.
