The last time we saw former UFC welterweight champion and former underwhelming steak house owner Johny Hendricks, he missed weight by .25 pounds. For that, he gave 20% of his purse to Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 200, and it cemented his aura as a man who has some of the most difficult weight cuts in UFC history.
Over the years, we've seen him shaking and struggling to lose weight. This is a regular thing for the heavy-handed wrestler. He was forced off UFC 192 and taken to the hospital after a weight cut gone bad, and now we spoke to him 1 on 1, and it looks like he's struggling to make 170 pounds once again.
In fact, he seems completely out of character here. He says, "training camp was awesome, training camp sucked... It sucked in a good way." in the same sentence. He's constantly leaning over as if he can't support his own weight. It's all very strange.
His mouth is dry, he's cutting weight, and even Ariel Helwani has to ask if he's feeling okay. Not good. He even goes on to challenge the rest of the assembled media to lose weight so they could feel how he feels. Unfortunately, making weight isn't in the job description of the media. That's his job. If he doesn't like making 170, he doesn't have to do it.
This is kind of the same way he was acting leading up to his infamous UFC 171 weigh-ins appearance:
And his UFC 200 weigh-in:
Hopefully Hendricks can make it out of this latest appearance healthy. No one should put their body through this, and it's only a matter of time until things can go very wrong. He simply doesn't look good, and if you look like a skeleton via the eye test, you probably feel worse than you look. In fact, .
Perhaps Johny needs to consider 185, for real.
