Undefeated, outspoken and oft-injured wrestler of bears #KhabibNurmagomedov is arguably the best MMA fighter without a belt. He was knocking on Anthony Pettis' door as a title challenger in 2014 after ragdolling Rafael dos Anjos, but was put out of action for nearly two years with knee injuries.
In that time, he's seen the rise of Conor McGregor and a whole shift of personnel in what he considers his division. And rightfully so — Khabib's undefeated. This shot should be his.
And yet, it's going to Conor McGregor, who has yet to defend his featherweight belt, and just fought at welterweight twice against Nate Diaz.
The UFC has trouble building stars, and Khabib knows this. He has a relatively fan-unfriendly style, and yet he has one of the largest social media followings in MMA. Khabib offers the UFC some advice:
"Because maybe Conor lose a couple times, he goes down. You have to make new business. You need a new hero, make new business before you lose your business.
I don't understand. Beginning the year he tapped, now he's fighting for the title. He tapped March now he's fighting for title in November. Crazy."
With a win over Michael Johnson, maybe he'll finally get his title shot. Maybe.
