The conspiracy theorists with poorly-shot phone video of Bellator 170's main event between Chael Sonnen and Tito Ortiz can definitely prove only one thing — Tito Ortiz held onto that choke a little long, eh? It wasn't egregious by any means. It's easy to look back in retrospect (and in slow motion), count the frames and really break down how a choke was *maybe* held too long, but Chael isn't upset, and neither is Tito, that's for sure. The California State Athletic Commission will not punish Tito for holding onto that choke.
Even with Tito admitting post-fight that he held onto the choke a little long, Andy Foster, the Executive Director of the CSAC, told MMA Fighting that the situation is effectively over:
“Referee John McCarthy fixed that situation quickly. John got him to to release the choke. If a referee wants a fighter punished for conduct, they will come and we will discuss it. That did not happen."
So, there ya go. The fight had an entertaining lead up, and the ending went on just a little bit too long. That's all.
