Conor McGregor is no fool and everything he does is for a purpose.
The Irishman was the talk of the town at the UFC 205 press conference when he entered wearing a white mink coat and a red turtleneck. It was a complete departure from the expensive suits that we're used to seeing McGregor wear before fights.
But there was a reason behind it.
McGregor was calling back to Joe Frazier's custom made outfit during an interview on January 9, 1974 before his 2nd fight with Muhammad Ali. That infamous fight also took place at Madison Square Garden in New York. The fight was dubbed "Super Fight II" and took place a few weeks later on January 28.
The interview was done specifically to show off Frazier's newly acquired jasmine mink coat custom made for his rematch.
Interestingly enough, Frazier would go on to lose his highly anticipated rematch with Ali by unanimous decision in one of the most highly anticipated fights in boxing history. Obviously, McGregor will not look to Frazier for inspiration inside of the cage when he faces Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
