"Super" Sage Northcutt is once again helping UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley prepare for his upcoming title defense against Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson. Northcutt has been training at RoufusSport alongside Woodley and, by all accounts, he's gone through a crash course in black culture during this camp.
Sage was raised by a strongly Catholic family in Texas and spent much of his youth competing in karate tournaments, so it's not a shock that he's lived in some sort of a bubble. The UFC welterweight champion and some other RoufusSport fighters are making up for missed time.
It began with them all, including Sage, watching "Birth of a Nation" a few weeks ago.
Fast-forward a few weeks and Sage Northcutt is now dropping Juelz Santana lyrics as captions of his Instagram posts with Woodley and other black training partners.
The lyrics are from the opening verse of Juelz Santana's "Dipset (Santana's Town)," which was originally released as a single in 2002. It's apparent that Woodley and others are catching Sage up on decades worth of culture and it's working.
We can't wait to see what "new thing" Northcutt discovers next.
