He may be more interested in a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather than anything else at the moment, but not too long ago, it was Conor McGregor's rematch with Nate Diaz that was the talk of the town.
The year was 2016. WME-IMG now owned the UFC, Eddie Alvarez was the lightweight champion, and McGregor was still the UFC's featherweight champion. On the heels of a stunning second round loss to Diaz at UFC 196, McGregor vowed to rise again by challenging the Stocktonian to an immediate rematch. The resulting bout not only shattered the UFC record for pay-per-view buys, but wound up taking the top spot in many "Fight of the Year" lists among fans and pundits alike.
Now, relive the fight like never before with "UFC Soundwaves."
Featuring some never-before-seen clips and soundbites, the latest edition of "Soundwaves" offers an exclusive look at the blockbuster UFC 202 headliner. Among the highlights include a look at McGregor's always lavish lifestyle in the lead-up to the fight, the McGregor family watching the fight through their fingers, and the 209 crew offering their timeless words of wisdom.
The best moment in the video by far, however, comes in the moments after the fight, when a war-torn McGregor asks referee Big John McCarthy, "Who won?"
"That one I don't know," replied McCarthy.
Diaz's corner, on the other hand, seemed to be a lot more confident when asked the same thing by Nate.
Of course, this video begs the question: Will we ever see McGregor-Diaz 3? Will it, as some genius writer has suggested, take place at Ireland's Croke Park with McGregor's lightweight belt on the line? Only time will tell...
