Back in March when this grappling superfight was announced, we thought the only thing better than Garry Tonon and Shinya Aoki rolling around would be if they wore Magical Rainbow Submission Pants. Well, Tonon may not wear them for the actual match, but he tried them on to get inside the chessmaster mind of Aoki and, well, let's just say they didn't exactly fit him right.

“Who knows what is going to happen with this match, but I have good reason to believe that if I submit him, well, number one he probably will not be too happy about that, but number two, I believe it will probably be grounds for him to challenge me to an MMA fight. I do not know. We will see. It could happen, it could not, but you know I will be ready. I am getting ready now, for if he does.” — Garry Tonon speaking to ONE about Shinya Aoki.

You don't get as far as Tonon has in the world of grappling without being smart or thinking ahead to his impending MMA career. He knew it was imperative to get in the head of Aoki in order to understand his unorthodox techniques and brutal submissions. However, it has become blatantly obvious why those tight splats just aren't for him. He could wear them to the bout anyway, but Aoki is far too cerebral of a grappler to be distracted by a mere appendage. Actually, he may try to submit it on May 26th.
