An action-packed weekend of MMA kicked off this morning with #ONEChampionship hosting their ONE: Kings of Destiny fight night in Manila.
Ting started off the contest at 100-mph and seemingly no nerves. His flying knee narrowly missed it's mark, but it foreshadowed much of the rest of the fight which was non-stop and action packed.
The first two rounds were incredible. Both fighters stood in the pocket throwing, and on occasion landing, punches, kicks, back fists, spinning kicks and a variety of strikes.
Neither fighter wilted or showed weakness despite the ferocity of some of the blows landed. However, both began to slow and initiate clinches to catch their breath in the third round.
The pace slowed further as the championship rounds began. Ting looked to change his gameplan and push the champion's back against the cage and take him down, but Folayang wasn't having any of it. On several different occasions he foiled Ting's takedown attempts as the challenger grew increasingly weary.
In the final round, Ting did have one bright spot as he landed a massive head kick after they were reset in the centre of the cage, but Folayang ate it well and fired back with some nice counters in the minutes that's followed after.
With 90-seconds left on the clock, Ting pointed to the ground a la Max Holloway trying to initiate one last standing exchange, but the champion refused to accept the invitation.
The crowd was on their feet after an entertaining 25-minutes. After a tense pause, the judge's decision was announced and all three scored it in the favor of the champion, Folayang.
Massive KO by Honorio Banario
Any viewers still rubbing the sleep from their eyes will have quickly been woken up by the stunning one punch KO by Honorio Banario.
Banario was taking on Jaroslav Jartim in lightweight action third from the top. After a back and forth first round, Banario walked through a front kick in second and proceeded to plant a devastating left hand on the chin of Jartim to send him to the mat unconscious.
Christian Lee Back in Business
Elsewhere on the card, teenage sensation Christian Lee got back to winning ways with a clinical first round TKO victory over late replacement, Jianping Wan.
Lee demonstrated he’d learned from his first career defeat last year and started the contest at a slower, more methodical pace. His opponent, Wan, was terribly undersized for featherweight and it was immediately apparent as his strikes landed short with ever increasing frequency.
Lee did what he needed to do though, and towards the end of the round he took Wan down to the mat and sliced through his guard moving into mount and then side control. Lee proceeded to smash Wan with elbows, before posturing up and landing another huge shot while standing over him.
With Lee firing in shots left, right and centre, Wan rolled to his side and turtled up. The referee at that point had seen enough and called an end to the bout. An emotional Lee ran around the cage celebrating with relief etched all over his face.
Christian Lee is back in business.
