Pop idols and rock n' rollers are usually known for their moves on stage and not for their skills on the mats. However, there's a surprising amount of musicians who've joined the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community over the years.

While most of these stars probably won't be competing at an IBJJF tournament any time soon, they are bringing attention to the sport in their own ways. It's always good to have a few famous fight fans out there.

Steve Aoki

Not to be confused with the legendary Shinya Aoki, EDM star Steve Aoki is a huge fight fan who recently caught the BJJ bug. The DJ and fitness freak likes to spend his free time on the mats when he's not dropping beats in the club.

Travis Barker

Like his pal Steve Aoki, blink-182 drummer Travis Barker also loves combat sports and likes to train to keep in shape. He often spends his weekday nights sweating in the gym with his kids.

Billy Graziadei

Heavy metal rocker Billy Graziadei has become obsessed with jiu-jitsu over the years, having trained under Rorion Gracie and his sons Ryron and Rener. The Biohazard vocalist currently holds a black belt in the art.

Maynard James Keenan

Tool singer Maynard James Keenan is another metal head turned BJJ addict. He's trained with the legendary Rickson Gracie and currently holds a purple belt.

Tommy Lee

Mötley Crüe founding member Tommy Lee has trained jiu-jitsu in the past and has even spent time with the late Helio Gracie. Watch him referee an impromptu BJJ match in the video above.

Herman Li

DragonForce guitarist Herman Li is famous for his ability to shred on stage, however, he's also a force to be reckoned with on the mats. He began his journey through the sport at Carlson Gracie's academy in 2005 before becoming a student of Roger Gracie.

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato's love for is no secret, but she's become a fan of more than just the striking game. She recently showed off her BJJ skills in a video for Honda.

Rikki Rockett

Apparently a lot of drummers like grappling. A black belt in the art, Poison drummer Rikki Rockett trains under Renato Magno at Street Sports Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in California.


Although he's had to work on his skills recently to play "Sugar" Ray Leonard in Hands of Stone, music megastar Usher has also spent some time on the mats. A close friend of , the musician once rolled with Andre Galvao.
