In the world of combat sports, every knockout is truly its own, unique, unconsciousness-inducing snowflake. From time to time, however, we are gifted a KO that truly defies the odds, our expectations, or even the common laws of physics. That's what the 'Insane KO of the Day' is all about.
Today's KO: Toe-Tal Destruction
Is Sheldon Reid the next Anderson Silva?
It's a question that is sure to draw responses like "No", "Are you serious?!", and "Who exactly is Sheldon Reid?", but hear me out for a second. Anderson Silva is an MMA legend, a 10-time UFC middleweight champion, and the 2008 Spike Guys' Choice Awards winner for "Most Dangerous Man." To many, he remains the greatest fighter to ever step foot in the Octagon – a brilliant, Super Saiyan-level badass who would still be champion today if not for a moment of negligence on that fateful night back in 2013.
And despite all these accolades, it took him 34 fights before he was able to score a knockout via front kick to the face. You remember the one.
Bantamweight amateur Sheldon Reid, on the other hand, managed to score the exact same knockout in just his third bout while facing off against Julio Calcina at Shinobi War 7 last April. And unlike Silva's, no follow-up punches were necessary to seal the deal. He just booted Calcina in the face like an angry Rockette and watched him crash to the canvas like a felled oak.
Am I saying that scoring this knockout alone makes Sheldon an equal to Anderson Silva, one of the greatest fighters of all time? No, I'm saying it makes him BETTER than him. Sheldon Reid is the one true GOAT and it is only a matter of time until this fact is confirmed. You heard it here first.
