It’s been a hectic few weeks for me with constant activity in my schedule, and this week is no different. Right now, I’m sitting in an airport as I write this, waiting on my flight out to Brazil. I’m attending my very first Comic Con with Vin Diesel and Nina Dobrev to promote the xXx movie for a few days, then it’s back home to get prepared for the holidays since my family is flying in this year.
Before I get off track here, I want to address some rumours I’ve been seeing, namely the one that I’m defending my title against #YoelRomero at UFC 208. There is no truth to that. Let me be crystal clear—I am not fighting at #UFC208.
Dana reached out to me about fighting on the card with the opponent being Yoel Romero. I said, ‘Listen, I’ve got no problem fighting Yoel, but I’m not physically or mentally ready to start a training camp just yet.’ My knee is still giving me ongoing issues and have been getting treatment from Dr. Steve Mora (orthopedic surgeon/specialist).
It was bothering me in my last camp, so I’m going to take a little time to let that heal correctly. To be honest, it was only five weeks ago since my fight with Dan Henderson, so I’m not quite ready to go straight into another training camp.
That would mean training during Christmas, and as I mentioned above, I’ve got big plans in the works already. I’ve had a very busy year. I’ve had three fights, several movies and I’ve done a lot of work for FOX. I just want to have a nice Christmas with my family.
I figure I’ll get Christmas out of the way and will probably book a fight around March or April, at the very latest. March would be perfect, though.
One last thing I wanted to say is that I saw Dan Henderson’s blog yesterday—the one where he agreed with my statements about Yoel being a serial cheater in the sport. I never thought I’d see the day where we could agree on anything, but the things he said were absolutely correct.
For a guy that proclaims to be so religious, Yoel sure is one hell of a hypocrite. Certainly in the fight game he’s of low moral fibre. He’s a cheat, and we all know it. The only thing I don’t agree with is Dan’s take on that tainted supplement thing.
Romero tested positive for steroids. I don’t care how you dress it up. He’s got a very good lawyer and a good team behind him that came up with the perfect excuse, but it’s all bullshit and he’s a cheating bastard.
That said, I’m happy to get in there and beat his ass. Yoel Romero doesn’t scare me one little bit. He’s a powerful guy, but everybody in the UFC is powerful, if you think about it. We’re the best fighters in the world. We’re all big, strong, physical specimens.
I’m not exactly a walk in the park, either. People always underestimate me. You’d think, at this point, they’d stop doing that. I know how to persevere. I know how to get the job done. Nobody is lifting this belt off me—not Yoel Romero, not the devil himself…NOBODY.
