Well, we had to see this coming.
With the #UFC209 co-main event (or "people's main event") between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson officially scrapped on account of the latter's last-minute illness, you just knew that the UFC would be looking over the remaining card for a fighter crazy (or perhaps, groovy) enough to face "El Cucuy" on a day's notice, and wouldn't you know it, they found one in Lando Vanatta.
For those with stunted memory, it was Vannata who made his UFC debut against Ferguson on short notice at Fight Night 91 last July and put up one Hell of a fight, dropping the current top contender on multiple occassions before succumbing to the effects of his non-existent camp and falling to a second round D'arce choke.
On the heels of a spinning kick destruction of John Makdessi at UFC 206, Vannata is currently scheduled to face David Teymur on the UFC 209 main card. That hasn't stopped him, however, from claiming that he would "slaughter" Ferguson in a rematch, making now the perfect opportunity for the "Groovy" one to live up to his words.
