Jon Jones' pending NAC hearing was delayed earlier this month, leaving his future in the UFC uncertain.
Throughout the process following his July doping violation (which resulted in his removal from the UFC 200 card), Jones has seemingly remained optimistic, and perhaps rightly so considering he has not been stripped of his interim championship. If that remains the case following #UFC206, Jones would almost certainly be the first in line for a title shot once his case has been resolved.
It's no surprise then that the former 9-time UFC champion is keeping a close eye on the upcoming title fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony "Rumble" Johnson.
When asked on Twitter who he thinks will take it at the December event, Jones gave it to his former rival DC, stating that his "overall game is more complete."
That being said, if he had his way, Jones would rather face "Rumble" for his comeback fight, claiming it will let him "clear the division" enroute to retaking the title.
Jones has already defeated Cormier once before, in what would eventually be Jones' final title defense before being stripped of the belt. Coincidentally, this suspension resulted in him being pulled from a fight with Johnson at UFC 187. Cormier stepped in to replace him, defeating Johnson to become the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.
Cormier has since gone on to defend the belt once against Alexander Gustafsson. He was set to face a returning Jon Jones, fresh off of his suspension, before Jones was pulled from the event over this recent USADA violation. Cormier instead competed in a non-title bout against Anderson Silva, winning via unanimous decision.
Since that last defeat, Johnson has picked up three wins in a row to earn his rematch with Cormier. All three victories (Manuwa, Bader, and Teixeira) earned him a Performance of the Night bonus.
Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson will contest the belt once more at UFC 206 in Toronto on December 10.
Jon Jones meanwhile is awaiting his NAC hearing, which will hopefully give him a concrete timeline on when he can compete again.
