For Jesse Taylor, the timing wasn't right nine years ago, but the time was finally right now. After blowing the opportunity to compete in the TUF 7 finale by having a belligerent night on the Las Vegas strip and embarrassing himself, Taylor found himself right back in The Ultimate Fighter house for season 25, appropriately titled "Redemption."
It only took him nine years to get another opportunity to be a UFC fighter and he made the most of it, along with $290,000. Taylor rolled through the tournament and found himself staring at another opportunity against Dhiego Lima. Only, the 34-year-old had matured with his time in other MMA promotions and wouldn't waste the second chance.
Taylor wasted no time deploying his wrestling and went directly for the takedown on the heavy handed Lima. Lima tried his best, but couldn't keep Taylor off of him for the first round. Lima almost struck gold in the second frame by dropping Taylor with a punch seconds into the round. However, he was a bit overzealous and came in too high in his attempt to finish off Taylor with some ground a pound. Taylor recovered and took advantage of Lima's mistake to swap positions and take his opponent's back. Seconds later, Taylor cinched in a rear naked choke and forced Lima to tap.
Taylor fought in Strikeforce, DREAM, MFC, AFC, Impact FC, Shark Fights, Cage Warriors and Absolute Championship Berkut before finding his way back into The Ultimate Fighter. And who better to get redemption than Jesse Taylor.
