Tom Duquesnoy will make his highly anticipated debut this weekend at UFC On Fox 24 and enters the fight with a significant amount of hype that rivals the likes of Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey and others.
Although Duquesnoy may not have the name recognition as some of the other fighters mentioned just yet, his betting line tells you all you need to know about the talent and potential he brings to the Octagon.
At only 23 years old, Duquesnoy is arguably France's best MMA prospects, which is high praise given the success of Francis Ngannou.
Duquesnoy may not have the heavy hands of Ngannou, but he's a polished finisher in his own right. And oddsmakers have him as a heavy favorite entering his UFC on Fox debut against Patrick Williams.
Bovada currently has Duquesnoy listed as a -750 favorite; a number you'd usually see bet down as the fight inches closer.
Duquesnoy will have to live up to those lofty odds and expectations, but he is far from the first UFC fighter to have lofty expectations placed on them in their debut fight.
Here's a list of some of the UFC's most anticipated fighter debuts and how oddsmakers viewed them heading into the fight.
McGregor vs. Brimmage
- Event: UFC on Fuel TV: Mousasi vs Latifi
- Odds: -155
Conor McGregor was proclaiming himself the best fighter in the world long before he made his UFC debut. The problem was that fans, reporters, Dana White, and the odds makers didn't know it. McGregor's confidence never wavered and he showcased his superb striking skills for the first time in the Octagon against Brimmage with a dominant performance en route to his first of many Octagon KOs.
Rousey vs. Carmouche
- Event: UFC 157
- Odds: -1000
Before Ronda Rousey was proclaimed the "baddest woman on the planet" and before she was a movie star, Rousey was an armbar technician searching for a spot in the world's largest MMA promotion. Casual fans knew that she had been given the title without ever stepping foot in the octagon, but it wasn't until this night that they knew exactly why Dana White put so much faith in her talent.
Lombard vs. Boetsch
- Event: UFC 149
- Odds: -310
Lombard entered the UFC as the destroyer of any and everyone in Bellator. Lombard sported a 19 fight winning streak that spanned the course of five years before heading into his UFC debut. But that all went out the window when he lost a close split decision to Tim Boetsch.
Cro Cop vs. Sanchez
- Event: UFC 67
- Odds: -1600
Cro Cop made easy work of the overmatched Sanchez in this lopsided affair. This is one case where the oddsmakers got the spread exactly right.
Rua vs. Griffin
- Event: UFC 76
- Odds: -350
Rua entered his UFC debut after destroying Alistair Overeem at Pride 33 and had a lot of hype behind him. That dimmed when he lost by 3rd round submission to Forrest Griffin, in one of the most significant UFC upsets of that decade.
Silva vs. Leben
- Event: UFC Fight Night 5
- Odds: -200
The legend of Anderson Silva preceded him due to his amazing MMA performances in Pride and Cage Rage, but his debut showed the casual fan why he was one of the best fighters on the planet. Chris Leben would find out quickly what it was like dealing with The Spider.
Lesnar vs. Mir
- Event: UFC 81
- Odds: -175
Lesnar looked impressive early in his UFC debut, but a mistake led to him losing to the always dangerous Frank Mir by knee bar.
