Gunnar Nelson was slated as the main event for UFC Fight Night Belfast next month until he injured himself and was forced to pull out.
The Number 12 ranked welterweight admitted today that the injury he sustained was actually aired live on Facebook during an official UFC open workout event.
The injury happens at 1:08 according to Nelson, and can be seen here.
"I was so much looking forward to fighting again in Ireland and now its not happening because of a stupid ankle twist that ironically happened in a UFC open work out," he wrote on his official Instagram. "Right away I wasn't sure how serious it was so I kept face and rolled a little on, but told my training partner Kenny Baker about it during and he knew all about it he said because he felt the massive click when it happened."
Nelson went on to explain that he was unable to walk normally or put any weight on the ankle, and was told by his trainers he needed to withdraw from the fight.
Nelson maintains a close friendship with training partner and current featherweight champion, Conor McGregor.
He is coming off a submission win at UFC Fight Night 87 where he finished Albert Tumenov via second round neck crank.
He was slated to fight Dong Hyun Kim on November 19. The new main event will be Gegard Mousasi vs. Uriah Hall.
