Will ever return to the UFC if he gets his boxing superfight with ?

No one knows the answer right now, but the Irishman’s teammate, , recently offered his own thoughts on the situation.

Speaking to Submission Radio earlier this week, Nelson was asked about the possibility of the two training partners ever fighting. The Icelandic welterweight said they wouldn’t, but then added that he wasn’t sure if McGregor would fight again in the UFC at all if he fought Mayweather.

“I don’t think we would fight ever, to be honest,” Nelson said. “We’ve been training partners since we were 17 and I don’t think that would ever happen. He would just focus on something else. You never know what he’s going to do next. If he beats Mayweather, I’m not sure that he will ever fight again, to be honest. I don’t know, but I could see him just floating off and doing something else crazy.”

Nelson elaborated on the idea that McGregor wouldn't return to the UFC by suggesting that the Irishman may even look for a second boxing fight if he were to defeat Mayweather.

“I’m basing it on [the fact] that he wants to go bigger every time,” Nelson said. “If he beats Mayweather – like, he’s taken the two belts, and then he beats Mayweather in this huge superfight, and I’m not sure what he’s going to see as a next challenge or a next thing that he wants to do. I just don’t really see what he wants to come into the UFC again for. I’m not sure. Obviously, there’s always something. But he’s also having a baby and yeah, I’m not sure where his mind is going to be. He’s going to have a ton of money anyway. We’ll see. Maybe he’ll do another boxing match or something if it goes well. Maybe he’ll get more money there and be more interested in that. I don’t know. We’ll see, I guess. I have no idea.”

If the Irishman does return to the UFC, Nelson suggested that McGregor could return to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov. For the moment though, the Irishman is apparently focused on just one thing.

“Maybe he’ll fight Khabib or something next if Khabib is in shape,” Nelson said. “I don’t know, there’s something wrong with his [Nurmagomedov’s] kidneys or something after that cut. We’ll see. I don’t know what’s he going to do. But he’s just focusing on one thing at a time and right now it’s Floyd Mayweather and I’m looking forward to that myself.”
